“Murder your Darling…”
The title is really strong and contradicting. Same is the expectation for developing critical thinking – murder your biases – the thoughts, views, opinions which were so very comforting and supportive to your system 1.
It’s difficult – extremely difficult – because we have to do it by ourselves. It needs patience, clarity, acceptance, readiness and courage. But that’s the only way to heal, in many different ways and for many reasons. Eg – The topic I chose to – murder my darling was – “Men are not emotional”. Based on what I had seen, heard, and experienced all these years – this was a very easily accepted reality. So, to start off to murder – I looked into the men in my house to see whether they were really emotional? I really struggled hard to recall and see things differently to understand their ways to be emotional as my system 2 had never ever explored or saw through those lenses all this time. And hence there were differences, disagreements and resentments. But with great efforts with my system 2 at least now I can say – “mere ghar ke mardo ko BHI dard hota hae”.:):):):):) I am still work in porgress with my system 2 to observe more and understand their emotional side.
Critical Thinking Reflection
The session was taken by shezin mam and bargavi mam,
first of all the session was full of content and entertaining and lots of fruitful discussion
All the content deliver in complete in detail and facilitator are so relax and clam they are not hurry to just finish the portion, Also they listen each member very carefully and respond in kind manner
In that session we discuss about how the system 1 and system 2 responding in different situation as well as we discuss about understand the different bias:-confirmation bias basically when you like something and second is cognitive bias:based on information.
I think the session is very useful while its comes with students and also it is very important.
CT – The Way Of Thinking
I really liked the concept mapping activity. Through this activity, I understood how CT works. I got to know about System-1 and System-2 thinking and I am able to connect how because of these systems and we respond to situations. The debate helped me understand the difference between facts, opinions, beliefs, and truths. I also learn that before making any judgment we need to go in-depth and understand things from a different perspective and also look for the data and reality.
Critical Thinking Reflection
Through the sessions I have understood that we mostly use System 1 whenever we are taking any decision. But now I have started focusing on System 2 which is rational, does not come naturally and requires conscious effort. I understood that System 1 thinking works when there is no logical thinking but System 2 thinking requires analyzing.
Critical Thinking Reflection
The sessions were well conducted. It gave me an insight how we are tend to use our System 1 as per our instinct. It also made us understand about facts, opinions and beliefs. It helped me to rationalize any situation using System 2 before acting on it.
Reflection- Critical thinking
Critical thinking gives the opportunity to think upon thinking, and that rethinking process helps identify what kind of thinking we do, system 1 or system 2.
As I am closely working with an event “Kalakriti”, it’s giving me a series of experiences in this kind of situation where I am analyzing the situations and able to connect where I am thinking instantly and need to take pause. And I even thought of understanding the situation. So complete process of thinking critically shifted me from system 1 to system 2.
Critical Thinking
Critical thinking provides opportunity not to evaluate any situation but to evaluate it critically. For evaluating critically it was told how generally we use System 1 thinking instantly without any pause, which is based on perception rather than facts. Wherein System 2 help to understand about the situation deeper. Sessions shifted the paradigm of following blindly what others say to think critically and have our own clear perspective.
FA(KE) OR FA(CT) – Critical Thinking !!!
Anaïs Nin: “When we blindly adopt a religion, a political system, a literary dogma, we become automatons. We cease to grow.”
To begin with, it was an amazing experience to know about different types of biases. Now coming across the situations, I can easily relate how our thinking is affected by these biases. The sessions held till now has given much clarity on what is it to think critically and how it affects our decision-making.
The sessions also taught us to value the opinions of different people. These small things gives us the opportunity to introspect our own thinking and respect others perspective though if you choose to go ahead with your own beliefs and trust.
Overall it was an enriching experience to learn from experienced facilitators and looking forward to seeing myself as a critical thinker in upcoming sessions.
WHY??? – A very interesting word.
FS has been a very safe place to explore this word – WHY. One can use it anywhere and with anyone. Wrong!! It’s not how it works in FS. It needs systems – system 1 and system 2 to identify where and to whom to ask WHY. This was a reiteration for me.
Over the years a lot have changed after my first encounter with Critical thinking classes. I have come a long way and have tried my level best to apply – reasonably – my system 1 and system 2 while acting, reacting, givning opinion, facts or truth. It’s still a long way – but as my title says – asking why has always been a very intersting thing for me. Looking forward for more such intersting whys from this batchmates.
