ART OF THINKING-CRITICAL THINKING

My journey of Critical Thinking so far has taught me to think two ways: Keeping your emotions aside as well as considering them.

There are many situations in every individual’s life where they have to think critically and hop to one conclusion. But is it easy?

I’ve learned to analyse a situation without overthinking. Critical thinking reflects that emotions and reasoning go hand in hand. It gives us ownership of beliefs. The decision between a fact and an opinion will be taken on grey areas and not black & white.

Also, learned that one should not be biased in taking decisions but think critically about what is at stake and what is important for us.

With gratitude,

Nisha

  • ‘Also, learned that one should not be biased in taking decisions but think critically about what is at stake and what is important for us.’ — I agree with this learning….! Now, in my routine course of work while making decisions , I do always ask a question to myself ‘ What is at stake and important for me?’ It has truly helped in making better decisions so far!

Ma’am please do share examples with us to know how you managed to apply CT in taking better decisions. If not here maybe in class discussion.

Yes true ! It does say that we need to look at what is at stake and what is important for us however there has been lot of situations where this learning has been difficult to be implemented in my life. Especially when the decision is to be made in case of personal and professional life where we all have struggles to give importance to our home as well as the school. At times you have to make decisions on the basis of the commitment level and not what is important. I may have a wrong thought process for this but personally it has been difficult for me to operate as far as personal and professional decisions are to be made.

It took me so long to understand that critical thinking does require reason AND emotions. I am glad you do agree with it. And ya it would have been so easy if it was always black and white but rightly mentioned there will be “grey area”.

After attending sessions on critical thinking it actually has helped me to think critically if I have to take any small decision I have started applying some logic and reasoning and every time it’s not easy to come up with a win-win situation but yes, at least it will give an immense satisfaction for at least trying to introspect to overcome the issues. I do agree with Shezin am there will be ” grey area” but that’s how it is?
